If you missed the last part of our Samantha dress sewalong ‘Making the neckline binding and collar’, click here to catch up.
Now that we made the neckline binding and collar, it is time to attach them to our neckline. The binding will create a neat finish and the collar is extremely easy to insert, so there’s nothing to worry about. Ready?
Attaching the neckline binding
Pin the raw edges of your folded neckline binding to the right side of the bodice neckline from one side to the other.
Place your collar on the top, along the neckline. There is a center notch that will help you align it correctly and also notched at the front bodice pieces where your collar points should be. Use lots of pins to secure it in place but be careful not to stretch your neckline.
You will essentially sew the neckline binding AND the collar all at once, so you will have them all pinned to your neckline at this point. We took many photos to help you visualize it better.
Stitch the neckline binding along with the collar using either a zigzag or your overlocker.
Press the seam allowances towards the inside.
And that’s all for today. Join us next week for the next part of our sewalong, ‘Assembling the bodice and the skirt’
